IRIS Environment is a provider of research, new knowledge and innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
Using our state-of-the-art experimental and analytical facilities, we work closely with industry and research partners looking into scientific and technical questions with the overall objective of reducing the industrial footprint on the environment. Our focus is on the sustainable use of marine resources, and within the past year there has been an increased emphasis on issues related to aquaculture.
Bioeconomy encompasses the use of renewable biological resources from land and sea and their conversion into food, feed, materials, chemicals, energy and bio-based products. IRIS Environment’s focus on the Bioeconomy has been rewarded with the establishment of a Nordic Centre of Excellence (NCoE), SUREAQUA. SUREAQUA aims to make significant contributions to food and nutrient security, employment and efficient use of resources within the context of forecasted global changes. Together with Biosentrum (an industrial subsidiary company of IRIS), IRIS plans to establish an expertise centre in Risavika, for the development and scaling up of bio – and fermentation processes.
