IRIS has along tradition of commercialising our research. IRIS Energy has a large and strong technical centre for drilling and well. The commercialisation of DrillTronics™ continued in 2015. The technology was developed by IRIS over a couple of decades and commercialised through Sekal AS, of which IRIS is the largest shareholder. Significant cost savings have been demonstrated from using DrillTronics™. Our SFI research centre DrillWell has close connections with the supplier industry, which can take the technology developed in the centre out into the market. The collaboration with the industry and Sekal leads to further innovation. In 2015 for example, more precise measurement technology and advanced drilling models were developed. Work on commercialisation will continue to be very important for DrillWell.
In the National IOR Centre, research has already arrived at the stage where patents are being considered after full-scale testing on Ullrigg and possible commercialisation paths for software packs developed at the centre are being addressed. This commercialisation will be implemented with partners in the centre.
