IRIS is mainly involved in applied research. For us, it is important to ensure that the results are actually used.
The IRIS vision expresses it in this way: Our research creates substantial value! Real innovation occurs when actual improvement occurs in industry, political government and public administration.
There are three main elements to this picture. We must define and perform research with the main emphasis on the usefulness of the results. IRIS must also help ensure that the results are accessible to those who wish to use them. This occurs in several ways. The most important is commercialisation of technology and active dissemination of results so as to create an understanding of their significance and practical applications. The third element is our research into innovation processes. This further strengthens our ability to create substantial value.
