Much of the activity took place within the framework of the two research centres, The National IOR Centre of Norway and COREC. 2014 was the year The National IOR Centre of Norway really got started with research projects and activities. The Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien cut the ribbon in front of a full house and declared the centre open on March 26 2014.
The centre has twelve industrial partners; ten operators and two service companies. The centre research focus is on two main themes: Immobile oil and EOR methods and reservoir characterization for better recovery from mature fields.
The research centre COREC is a joint program between IRIS, UiS and the Ekofisk licence operated by ConocoPhillips. The centre opened in 2003 and will contribute to increased oil recovery at Ekofisk. The research at the centre has developed from basic research in the early years to a broad portfolio of projects within technology development, field implementation and expertise projects, supported by the Research Council of Norway.
